Outhouse

Outhouse, founded in 1982, is the coolest program house at Wesleyan University. It is the headquarters of the Wesleyan Outing Club. Gear is stored in the attic. Anyone can lead trips, although house members try to offer outings every week. House members form the core of the club's leadership. There are 11 people who live in Outhouse. Room 3 is the best room. There is also a really sweet white rug in the living room. Outhouse has a tradition of nudity. House members play a game where they are awarded naked points. Last year the prize was a cape. Taking butt pictures on outings is also a tradition, and collages of these photos fill the Outhouse walls. Another tradition includes listening to James Taylor and watching slide shows. There is a really sweet backyard and gear shed. Everyone hangs out in the kitchen eating random food often sent by house member's parents or baked during periods of stress. Moving into outhouse is usually followed by a drop in GPA.

Outhouse has a strong rivalry with German Haus, located across the street. Outhouse residents aren't sure the inhabitants of German Haus really care, though.Past pranks have included streaking, swapping mouthwash and dish soap, hiding a dead lobster in a cabinet, and stealing rugs.

The goal of the Wesleyan Outing Club is to make the outdoors accessible to the whole of the Wesleyan Community. We provide free, weekly, student-generated outings to which all are welcome. We seek to offer the community knowledgeable, qualified leaders to make outdoor experiences available and raise consciousness about the natural world. The club further facilitates this goal by providing free necessary equipment, information and guidance for student-initiated outdoor activities. The Outhouse offers a gathering space and foundation for the outdoor community at Wesleyan.
